Boys Are Go!

I've finished a layout for Get Picky, with less than an hour to go before the deadline, based on their Sketch #17. 

I've rotated it to use with landscape photos and adjusted the size and position of the patterned paper to suit the fact that my pictures are larger than in the sketch.

I die-cut some circles in place of the butterflies and spread them around the page, aiming for a visual triangle, and outlined my letters to increase the contrast with the background.

Remember the Details

Well, I veered off course for a couple of layouts, but I'm back in Singapore today. This layout will be the last for Singapore (but I'm scrapping out of order so I still have three to do (if that makes sense)). I wanted to scrap a couple of photos that don't really fit in anywhere; they aren't of events or landmarks, just a couple of things that caught my eye.

I used Sketch #16 from Get Picky for this one. I usually stay pretty close to a sketch, but this time I did change it up a bit. The photos I wanted to scrap were landscape so I rotated the sketch and, since there were two photos I made them a bit larger. This meant that they didn't fit a circle very well so the circle became a bracket shaped square, running off the edge of the page. Nevertheless I believe that the original sketch is still visible in my layout.

Gamle Stavanger

Get Picky is celebrating its first birthday with a blog hop and this sketch:

I returned to my 2009 Norwegian Cruise album to make this layout about the old part of the city of Stavanger, with its pretty clapboard houses and cobbled streets.

Most of the papers come from the same paper pad; it has some pages of borders and tags which makes co-ordination really easy. I decided to chalk the flowery paper to change the background from white to peach as the white was too big a contrast with the other papers. My journalling is on a small tag which tucks behind the photo of my daughter. There's no real need for it to be hidden; I just ran out of space.

All Change

It's been quite some time since I last did a sketch from Get Picky - I'm not sure why as they have a good variety of sketches, and they are designed for multiple photos, which I mostly do. 

I adapted this sketch to use four photos rather than three, with before and after photos to document the fact that my son's school became an academy this term - not because it was a failing school but because the head wanted to opt out of local authority control (or local authority interference as he saw it).

I used the same stripy paper on the two halves, but rotated it to make a change between the two sides. The papers come from the same collection as I used on the last page as they will be consecutive pages in the album and they are both about the same school. The card is an old piece from Cosmo Cricket (2009) that I have been hoarding. I moved the journalling to the bottom of the layout and I hand-wrote it for once as I wanted it to be directly on the lines of the page and I do not have either an A3 printer or the patience to line up the print with the lines if I had cropped it to A4.

Southampton Water

I wanted a multi-photo layout for the start of our mini-cruise as we have lots of pictures but none of them is particularly important or high quality. This sketch from Get Picky was perfect and I managed to squeeze a couple of extra photos onto the layout without it being overcrowded.

Let's Swing

A new blog for me to follow - Get Picky post an inspiration challenge on the 1st of each month and a sketch challenge on the 15th. The photos in this sketch were quite small and I didn't think it would work so well with larger ones so I went back in the old albums to find some small pictures. I changed the rectangle of patterned paper to an oval so that the left photo wasn't so isolated. The flowers that I wanted to use were quite large so I just used two, and two butterfly embellishments.
