Torre del Conde

A late post today as I am guest designing for Lisa Sikorski at Scrap a Sketch and she releases her new sketches at 8 o'clock each Friday evening.  You'll have seen a few of them here on my blog and I was delighted to be asked to guest for her this week.

It's a two-photo sketch but I've gone for just one with a journalling card instead of the smaller photo. I've also flipped it vertically as that suits the angles in my photo better. That photo is the Torre del Conde, a 15th century tower in La Gomera, built by the first Spanish governor of the island.

Guesting at Stick It Down

I'm guest designing at Stick It Down today, sharing a card based on their December sketch. When I saw Laura's design, my immediate thought was to just copy the fringed tree, but I don't have any fringing scissors so I started looking for another way to make a layered pattern. 

I discovered a few years ago that my bracket border punch makes lozenge shapes when you overlap the punched paper strips offset from each other. The sketch specifically says to use any shape instead of the tree, and I thought that lozenges would be rather effective on a Christmas bauble.

I picked out a holly patterned paper and a plain red shimmer cardstock for contrast. I already had some die-cut bauble shapes and I started by covering the top part with glitter washi tape, before layering the strips from bottom to top, trimming each one to shape as I went. I finished the bauble with a bit of gold thread and decorated the background with stencilled stars and spatters of gold mist.

Having made one card, I decided to carry on with a few more as I had more baubles on hand. I stuck with the red cardstock, but changed the patterned paper each time.

Guesting at Stick It Down

I'm the guest designer at Stick It Down today, with a card based on their January sketch.

As I posted a couple of weeks ago (A Year of Cards), I want to change my approach to card-making in 2017. No more making random cards just because a sketch or challenge appeals to me; each card should be made with a specific person in mind. 

So... this card will be for one of my nephews, probably the older one but as he'll be 21 next birthday I may make him a specific '21st' card and pass this one to my younger nephew instead. I chose the Mr Mister collection from Papermania and picked a retro gaming print for the main pattern on the card, with complementary papers for the border and the circle. I made my circle larger than the one on the sketch, bumped it up on some scraps of chipboard and moved the sentiment to lie across it.
