Snapshots from Bognor Regis

It's not often that I can put a whole year on one scrapbook page, but when I raided my parents' old photo album for my childhood photos there were just four pictures for 1972, and they all came from our summer holiday in Bognor Regis so they all went on one page.

I've had this large scrap of floral paper for a few weeks, and when I saw it with the pink I knew that I had the colour scheme for a new page. I lined the photos up in a row, layered them on some more scraps and machine-stitched a couple of overlapping circles around them. I used a mask for the two lines of chevrons for a challenge from For the Love of Pretty Paper and included a shaker pocket in my layers for a subsidiary challenge from the same group to combine one with any other challenge.

Christening Day

I'm going back to my childhood for this page; I'm the baby being christened here. I had scans of two photos from the day and they are both quite small (as were the 1970s originals).

A two-photo page meant that I had another go at Hey Little Magpie's NSD recipe challenge (having failed at an earlier attempt when I couldn't make all of the elements work). This called for sewing, fussy-cutting, something shiny and twine or ribbon to go with the two photos.

Original Page

I spotted scraplift challenge #18 from Scrap Squad and made this the basis for my design. The original appears to be a DT page for The Digital Press but I haven't been able to find the original creator.

I chose a soft pastel floral for my triangle but didn't have many other papers that matched it so used Project Life cards for my photo mat and arranged the recipe pieces around them. I added the extra smaller triangle in the opposite corner for a challenge from For the Love of Pretty Paper to use at least two triangles on a page.

The admin team at For the Love of Pretty Paper love to launch a surprise challenge on us. Following five challenges based on the letters S-C-R-A-P with our choice of four stash items plus a compulsory colour each time, they set us an extra challenge to use all 20 stash items plus our choice of the five colours. I do love a list to work through, so set out to bash all the items and ALL the colours (and I wasn't the only one).

Our full list was stickers, scraps, sequins, scallops, sapphire, chipboard, clips, cork, crosses, charcoal, ribbons, rub-ons, rik-rak, rectangles, red, acetate, acrylic, arrows, adventure, amber, puffy, punches, plaid, portrait and purple.

I started with a portrait photo of me aged five, and a number cut-file which I cut in charcoal cardstock and backed with a rainbow of papers which included all the other colours. I placed those to the left of my page and added a line of rectangular scraps of the same papers to the right hand side, with a punched scalloped border.

I backed my photo with more rectangles (including a strip of plaid print which I added to the right side too), clustered a few of the list of embellishment items around it and scattered others (like the puffy hearts and sequins) around the page. The hardest thing to include was 'adventure' which I eventually managed as part of a series of word stickers - 'life is an adventure - live it'.

Next Steps

I'm moving on to the fifth challenge from a recent cybercrop at For the Love of Pretty Paper; they were themed around the letters S-C-R-A-P, so this is the 'P' challenge for which we were asked to used our choice of puffy, punches, plaid and portrait plus the colour purple. Purple and portrait took me back to my school days as my secondary school had a purple uniform. 

I don't have many purple papers but I found a background paper, some cardstock and a scrap of gingham paper. I didn't want to go monochrome so 'auditioned' a few other colours before settling on some aqua papers. The purple papers were all very plain so I used a cut-file and backed it with the cardstock (using a punch on the left edge to include that for the challenge). I alternated purple and aqua papers behind my photo (all scraps at the size they were) and added strips of glitter taper top and bottom. After adding my title, I used the asterisks from the same pack of Thickers to fill some of the circles in the cut-file, and flat stickers to add my form to another.

Daddy's Girl

I'm still doing Shimelle's challenges from her Online Scrapbooking Weekend, despite the fact that the link-up deadline has passed. Her sixth challenge was to create a page inspired by a wall of frames.

I was very much product-led on this page. I don't have or use many frames, but I received a pretty pink one in a RAK some time ago, so I decided to base my page around that. I also dug out a packet of kraft polaroid frames that I hadn't used. They were purchased on-line and were much smaller than I'd imagined when I received them.

Starting from the pink frame, I wanted a 'little girl' photo for the page. Failing to find one of my daughter, I went back to my own childhood and a photo of me and my dad from the summer that I was born. We're in the garden so I picked green to go with the pink. 

The papers came mostly from a 6x6 pad which had a sheet that was the same colour pink as the frame; I also pulled in a floral print that would tie the green and pink together.

Teeny Tiny Me

Scrap 365 - June 2015

I'm 'supposed' to be working on my cruise album, but I'm easily distracted into other pages when inspiration strikes. This time the distraction was a sketch challenge in a Facebook group that I belong to. It's a sketch that I knew wasn't going to fit in with my cruise album, but I had the perfect photo sitting on my desk.

It's an old passport photo of me, taken in 1980 I think. I have no idea how it's survived so long as it hasn't been kept in a special place. 

The photo is tiny, just 4cm by 4.5cm, so I used a chipboard frame and a doily to increase its space on the page. I rarely use pink for my pages, but I took the opportunity to use it here. My background is an embossed paper from Pebbles, and I raided my pink scraps for the other pieces. I love the enamel butterfly but I've not had a good opportunity to use it before, so I'm really pleased to have it out of my stash and onto a page. I journalled about the photo on a Project Life card which is tucked behind the page, attached to the layers at the top where it can be pulled out easily and read.
