Spin Me Right Round

I'm really pleased to have used another of the page kits that I prepared for National Scrapbooking Day; sometimes what I get ready just doesn't fit to any of the challenges that come up. 

I'm staying in 2005 for a trio of photos of my daughter in the park. I even stuck with the title and page design that I planned in advance. That page design comes from a very old class, & Now For Something Completely Different, which ran throughout 2012 at UK Scrappers, and it's at least the fourth time that I have used the May prompts. 

My page is a feast of My Mind's Eye, with pieces from at least five of their lines, and it suits three more National Scrapbooking Day challenges. Hey Little Magpie asked us to use a quote or song lyric, and For the Love of Pretty Paper gave us a pink moodboard. I don't often use pink on my pages, so I took this opportunity to use up all my pink puffy stars in one go for a challenge from Lottie Loves Paper to feature either stars or hexagons.

The Morning After Gilwell 24

Gilwell 24 is an annual event for Explorer Scouts, 24 hours of activities at Gilwell Park, the former home of Robert Baden-Powell. Our daughter has just completed her first year as an Explorer Scout so this was her first time at Gilwell 24, and once she was home she crashed out while checking her laptop. The photos I took of her sleeping are all slightly out of focus so I printed three of them quite small (2" high) in a strip for this page.

A photo strip made me think of an old class of Shimelle's, & Now for Something Completely Different, which ran on UK Scrappers during 2012. I've used the May class as it stands twice before (Stealth and Powerlifting), but this time I played with the layout a bit more.

I have a LOT of photos from our holiday in Austria, and I want to be careful how I scrap them. I'm going to need a lot of multi-photo pages, and left to my own devices I tend to put my photos in a block. Nothing wrong with that per se, but I don't want lots of similar pages in my album, so I went hunting among old sketches and old classes for some 'different' ideas.

One layout idea that I unearthed came from a 2012 class at UKScrappers, called & Now for Something Completely Different. It was hosted by Shimelle Laine, and each month she gave us step-by-step instructions to make a new page. The August class was intended for 4 4x4 photos, but I adapted it at the time (Steam Trains), and I've adapted it again here, with four photos from Fuschl, the village where we were staying. I'd intended the top one to be 4x6 but my printer had other ideas, and it didn't skip anything important so I went with the slightly smaller photo.

Snapshots London 2012

The Athletes' Parade should have been the end of my Olympic and Paralympic album, but it was a double, which means that I have one final page to fill and I decided to dedicate it to those photos which didn't manage to fit in anywhere else for one reason or another. 

Yesterday's Challenge #137 from Scrap Whispers was all about using up our paper strips, which lead me a page repeating December's & Now for Something Completely Different class from Shimelle Laine at UKScrappers. All the papers on the left were offcuts of various lengths and widths of the papers that I used throughout the album.

And now I've finished the last page of this album, though I do want to go back over the pages and add bits and pieces, especially where I started using a product part way through. I also need to stick down a few errant letters which are falling off the pages already. 

Now, what shall I do next? Malaysia 2009? Baltic Cruise 2011? General 2012? General 2013? So many albums; so little time.

Christmas 2012

One of many good things about last year was the '& now for something completely different' series of classes from Shimelle Laine at UK Scrappers. Her December class used 12 photos for a review of the year, but I opted to use the layout for 12 snapshots from Christmas time.

St Michael's Mount

More old photos today, a trio from St Michael's Mount, a small island off the Cornish coast. I used the November class from the '& Now for Something Completely Different' series at UKScrappers for my page, but I did tweak it to suit me; Shimelle cut her photos into strips but I wanted to leave mine whole. I will probably repeat the class with some Norwegian panoramas at another time.

Lydford Gorge

This is a scheduled post for Shimelle's '& Now for Something Completely Different' class at UKScrappers. The difference this month was that she only provided written instructions and no pictures of her page.

She asked us to keep our pages under wraps until Hallowe'en when we can all reveal them simultaneously, so here's mine:

I didn't follow every instruction, omitting the ribbon and some of the gems, and I added extra flowers as my page felt unbalanced; now to go and check what everyone else produced...

The London Eye

From a very old photo on the last page, to some very new ones on this page. We've had Merlin passes for the last year, and as they come to an end we have been squeezing in the last few trips, including a return visit to the London Eye a couple of weeks ago.

I used the September '& now for something completely different' class from Shimelle Laine at UKScrappers for this page. The class was all about using up journalling cards and spots, but I don't have many so I adapted her layout with patterned paper instead. I also found that Shimelle's page, with just small circular photos, was a bit too 'different' for me, so I added a 4x6 print to  the mix:

Powerlifting

Up until now, I've scrapped more-or-less chronologically through my Olympic and Paralympic album. The next section to tackle is our day at the Excel centre, where we had a day pass to our choice of sessions of a variety of more minor sports - sitting volleyball, table tennis, powerlifting and judo. 

I was mulling these over in a traffic jam yesterday and decided to make use of the May class from the '& now for something completely different' series at UKScrappers for my powerlifting page, as the photos are small and repetitive and some are a bit blurred. Having made this decision, I got straight to work on the page, so I have gone slightly out-of-order for now.

Olympic Park

Fourteen pages into my album, and I've finally reached the Olympic Park itself. We had tickets for the cycling on the first day of the Paralympics, and we walked to the park from West Ham station in order to avoid the crowds at Stratford. This picture was taken from the footbridge crossing the A11 where we could see the park for the first time.

I used the April class from the '& now for something completely different' series at UK Scrappers for this page. I didn't do the class at the time as I was waiting for a photo that was worthy of printing at A4.

I realise that I have strayed from having my titles in black or red letters, but these kraft letters were perfect for the page, and they won't look out of place as all my pages are on kraft card. Also, I have plenty more so I can use them again as I work through the album.

Steam Trains

I haven't done much scrapping since I came back from my holiday last weekend, but the & Now For Something Completely Different class at UKScrappers is a must. This month's class was a page with four 4" x 4" photos, but when I was looking for a suitable quartet of pictures, I decided to adapt it. My photos are from 2003 and were taken on a day out on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. To be honest, I don't remember much about the day, so my journalling is just a few basic facts.

This month was all about using up scraps of paper and making use of neglected tools, though the border punch I chose is actually in regular use on my pages.

Shimelle used two 4x6 landscape photos on her page, and most people followed her, but I used four smaller photos from a walk in Weald Country Park earlier this year, together with scraps left over from this page.

Still on 2007, but taking a break from the ABC Crop to do Shimelle's monthly class '& now for something completely different' at UK Scrappers. She posts a supplies list on the 10th of each month and 20 steps to complete a page on the 20th. I did pull my supplies beforehand, but once the class was posted I tweaked things a bit.

The main thing that was 'completely different' for me was the number of die-cut shapes that Shimelle used. I don't have many, and the ones I had pulled were just too small, so I substituted a couple of journalling cards and some fabric flowers.

And my page for the March class in the '& now for something completely different' series at UKScrappers. I didn't follow the class entirely, but I did use the stamping and the trio of punched shapes. I dropped the idea of writing the title on a series of stickers (which I don't have) and I've swapped over the positions of the title and the journalling. I started with a large piece of flowery paper at the side of the photos, as in Shimelle's example, but I found that it dominated the page and so I swapped it for two smaller pieces, one each side. I am really liking the Basic Grey Plumeria papers that I also used on the last page. I only bought them a fortnight ago and I am fast running out.

I do want to do all the classes in this series, but April needs a large (A4) photo, I don't have one printed and I don't want to print one that large just for the sake of it. I think I will wait and do that page later in the year when I have a suitable picture.

Now We Are Five

I said last post that I wanted to go back to the previous '& now for something completely different' classes at UKScrappers, and I've gone straight for the February class. Shimelle made a 4" x 6" mini-book attached to her page with brads, but I adapted her instructions to do a single photo layout.

The black and white strips were done with a bracket punch and I really like the lozenge shapes formed by offsetting the strips.

UK Scrappers hosts a monthly class called '& Now For Something Completely Different' with Shimelle Laine. I did make a page from January's class but then I let it slip until now. Shimelle posts a supplies list on the 10th followed by a set of instructions on the 20th. This month I actually managed to pull my supplies in advance and with the 20th being a Sunday, I completed my page on the first day:

The photos are some that I took on continuous shooting mode. I wasn't sure how (or whether) to scrap them, but the photo strip was a great solution.

A Boy & His Ball

Shimelle Laine is leading a monthly project over at UKScrappers, called '& now for something completely different'. Each month includes a full scrapbook page tutorial in 20 steps. You can use exactly the same supplies as Shimelle, or adapt to suit what you have. The January project is based around a circular paper from October Afternoon and has a rocket theme, but I changed mine to football.

I got this paper as part of a job lot recently and I didn't think I could really use it as my son is not a football fan. I probably wouldn't have thought of cutting out the ball if it wasn't for this project, so thanks to Shimelle, it has been used and was not part of my stash for very long. 

I followed most of the 20 steps, but I did make a few changes. I tried the punched circles in among the misted paint but I didn't like them. I also replaced the stitched stars with stamped stars. Finally, she added dots of glitter but my white star was already glittery, I don't have white glitter and I didn't want to use a different colour. I will save stitches and glitter for another layout.
