Parkrun Pages with Scrap Squad

It's that time of year when Scrap Squad publish their '12 Days of Summer Scraplifts', and I've used a few for parkrun pages. These are all 8x8, the photos are all quite similar and I don't generally add titles, so I welcome the scraplifts as a way to get some variety into the album.

I started off with Day 4, scraplifting a page originally made by Morag Cutts for Bramble Fox. 

Working on 8x8 means that my photo takes up proportionately more of the width of the page, so I made my layers wider too, using a 6x8 pad for the layers of patterned paper. With just one photo, I added a mason jar alongside it as a journalling spot, instead of the second photo.

Next up was Day 8, a page by Laura Alberts for Cocoa Vanilla Studio. 

I rotated the page as I only had one photo again, which was wider than it was tall, so that was a better match for the column of three photos in the original.

I found the white background to be too plain, so added a light smooshing of yellow ink behind the photo.

My third page was from Day 9, a page by Rachel O'Neal for Paper Issues.

I used a set of Vicki Boutin stamps with distress inks on my white background, inspired by the crosses on Rachel's original. I wasn't going to use twine on the tags as I like to keep these pages flat, but the tags looked unfinished until I punched the holes and added the twine.

Then I moved on to Day 10, a page by Claire Louise for Papermaze. 

I used my only square photo for this one, rounding the corners instead of framing it as in the original.

I started from the two floral clusters when choosing my supplies, a mixture of Jen Hadfield stickers and Paige Evans papers.

Parkrun Pages

Having finished my 2025 album, I'm turning my attention to my parkrun album now. I've been sitting on the first page since January since I generally share them in pairs; I count these 8x8 pages as halves in my page count for the year and it's been waiting for a 'twin' to keep the count even.

Catherine's Page

I made this page for week 3 of the January/February series from Scrapbook Challenges UK. We were asked to use yellow, paint splatters, 2+ photos, an animal and the theme of happiness, but we didn't have to use all the prompts. There were bonus points for scraplifting one of three layouts and I chose one by Catherine Lapidge.

I saw Catherine's page as a giant bauble which was perfect for our run at Wickford Memorial parkrun on Christmas Day. I found a couple of Christmassy die-cuts and popped a robin on one for my animal. The background is yellow and I spattered gold paint across the diagonal. I only had one photo and I thought that I would be dropping the happiness theme too, until I found the journalling die-cut.

23. Whitecliffe Lake

This page comes from from January when we visited a newish event which started in November and immediately became our NENDY (nearest event not done yet). I used the March sketch from For the Love of Pretty Paper for this one.

My paper choice was driven by my scraps box. I sort by size (simply two pizza boxes with large and small scraps) so I went through the 'large' box until I found two papers that went together and then stopped looking. I only had one photo so I used a journalling card instead of the second, an ancient one that I am happy has finally found a home on a page.

23.5 Valentines

We toured again in February when our local grass course was a quagmire so we turned to alternatives in parks with solid paths. First up was Valentines Park in Ilford. It was a rainy day so I based my page around a raindrop card and pulled matching papers from my scraps box.

24. Raphael

The following week we went to Raphael Park in Romford, and I scraplifted a page by Kirei Baldwin which was one of the '12 Days of Spring' scraplifts in the Scrap Squad group on Facebook recently.

I took all my paper strips from a 6x6 pad which I would love to kill off, and added oddments of embellishments in matching colours, including the same clear stickers with faux stitching that Kirei used.

I have a few more pages to do to bring this album up-to-date, but I haven't printed the photos yet so it's back on hold for now.

Parkrun Pages with Jenny Wren Cut-Files

I'm sharing a couple of 8x8 pages for my parkrun album today, both made with Jenny Wren Cut-Files as my DT projects for Twilight Crafts this month.

I used Numbers Background on the first page to celebrate my husband's 200th parkrun in October. It's not an official milestone so a guy called Gary Davies made a t-shirt for his own 200th run and now he lends it out every week with everyone signing it after they've worn it. I cut the numbers from dull brown cardstock and backed all the openings with the same blue patterned paper.

Secondly, I used Triangle and Squares Background to mark me running new PBs three times in September, after setting my previous best time way back in 2019. 

I flipped the cut-file over, filled three squares with photos and added my title to a fourth. I originally imagined journalling in the last box but I had too much to write so it ended up on strips on the right of the page.

Now a couple of pages for my Parkrun Continued album, which is 8x8 in size. I try to use up my scraps on these pages so these both have two part backgrounds. I count them as half-pages so always share them in pairs to keep the page count even.

(The numbers are my page count for the year and I have now exceeded the 105 that I made last year.) 

105.5 Queen Elizabeth

We ran at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in July en route to Southampton for our Norwegian cruise. I had a 12" tall chevron shaped paper scrap which I cut down for the left side and paired with green spots.

106. Happy Birthday Thurrock

Our home parkrun celebrated its 10th birthday in October, so I picked a photo of us all at the start line. I had a scrap of birthday paper which I decided to use, leading to a pink and navy colour scheme.

I ran at Thornbury on the weekend of the Twilight crop in May. My page is based on a challenge from Scrap Squad for their Birthday Cybercrop.

Parkrun Pages

We've passed the half-way point of the year, which feels more than time to catch up with my parkrun album. This is on volume 3 now - the first was an album/journal which tracked my first year (2018) of parkrunning week by week as I moved from walking it, through mixed running/walking, to finally regularly running 5km. After that initial year, I've just recorded our milestones, tourist runs and other significant events: volume two covers 2019-2022 and volume three 2023 to date. These pages are 8x8 and I count them as half-pages in my page count for the year.

65.5 Basildon 500

We've done Basildon parkrun a few times as they generally meet on Christmas Day while our own Thurrock run is closed, and we went again in January to help celebrate their 500th event along with my sister and brother-in-law.

I used the Doodled Border cut-file from Twilight Crafts and Jenny Wren Cut-Files for my page, which is my first DT project of the month.

66. Ingrebourne Hill

This new local parkrun started in December and immediately became our NENDY (nearest event not done yet); we gave it a few weeks to bed in before we visited in February. I started this page for an NSD challenge which combined a sketch and Grab 5 from Scrap a Sketch, but I've only just finished the journalling. The five items required were ribbon, ink, washi, stamps and blue.

Parkrun Pages with Scrap Squad - Part 2

Last post I shared four parkrun pages made with scraplifts from the 12 Days of Autumn event over in the Scrap Squad Facebook group and now I have another four to share. These bring my parkrun album up to date, which was one of the tasks I set myself to complete before I can start my cruise album.

84.5 250 Runs

I completed my 250th parkrun back in July and used the scraplift from Day 8 for this page. Ours is a two lap course so we often get two photos and I generally use the better one, but we had heavy showers that day. It was dry at the start so I risked running without a raincoat. Big mistake and having got soaked through I swapped my sodden shirt for my waterproof for the second lap. Hence I used both photos and printed them small as neither is very good but they contribute to the story.

85. Monsal Trail

Moving on to Day 9, and Monsal Trail parkrun which we ran in August while camping in the Peak District. The original had a circular cut-file, lots of stitching and some fussy-cut leaves, but mine is much simpler as I deliberately keep these 8x8 pages quite flat.

85.5 150 Runs

My husband completed his 150th run this summer, and I've recorded that with Day 10's scraplift and lots of diamond shapes. The original page had a small landscape photo but I chose to crop mine to match the papers.

86. Y Promenad

You might have seen this photo before as I scrapped it recently for my 2024 album on a 12x12 double page as part of a weekend away in Wales. However, it also needs to go into my parkrun album so I went back to the scraplift from Day 4 as that was the only one left that I could make work with a 4x6 photo though I tweaked it so that it wouldn't look too much like South Woodham Ferrers/Day 7.

Parkrun Pages with Scrap Squad - Part 1

I started bringing my parkrun album up to date when I came back from my holiday, and this coincided with the 12 Days of Autumn event in the Scrap Squad Facebook group, so I aimed to do as many of their scraplifts as possible with my parkrun photos. 

These are the first four and they are all 8"x8" so I count them as half-pages in my count for the year as they are roughly half the area of a 12"x12" page.

82.5 Blaise Castle

I started with Day 5, using two small photos offset diagonally with papers from a 6x6 pad. I ran here on the weekend of the Twilight crop back in May.

Parkrun Pages

A change from the monthly round-up post. I made so many pages in May that  I'm going to split them by theme/album and I think I will do that in future too, posting as and when I switch rather at the month end. I also posted a Twilight Crafts DT page separately earlier this month, and I'll try to do that for future DT pages.

May started with National Scrapbooking Day, with  its multitude of challenges. For this I chose to work on my Parkrun Continued album as the 8x8 size makes for quicker pages than 12x12 (and each one counts as half a page for my page count for the year).

41.5 Return of the Matt
Marking my husband's return to parkrun; he did three when I started, then stopped and came back the following year. This page ticks off three challenges: a scraplift from Scrap Squad, cool colours for GoGo Getaway and border punches for Hey Little Magpie.

Back to March 2020 for this page as I wanted to document the "Covid pause" in my parkrun album. I took the colours from the cornonavirus ephemera, which matched another colour challenge from GoGo Getaway, and combined that with another scraplift from Scrap Squad and stitching for Hey Little Magpie.

We planned our trip to be in Orkney on the middle Saturday for Kirkwall parkrun as we're unlikely to ever return there.

44. Ganavan Sands

The last of our Scottish parkruns. It was another Scrap Squad scraplift, using hexagons for Hey Little Magpie and a turquoise colour scheme for GoGo Getaway.

However, once the page was in the album, the monochrome colour scheme and lack of paper stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the ones around it, so I reworked it with some paper hexagons layered over the stamping. My papers were more green-turquoise than blue-turquoise so I had to jettison the arrows.

44.5 100 Runs

This page was my second May DT page for Twilight Crafts, to mark my husband's 100th parkrun. I used the Layered Circles cut-file to frame the photo, cut from orange textured cardstock to match his shirt.

All these pages mean that the album is now almost up-to-date. It's become two now though, so I need a new title page for the second volume and a page for Blaise Castle parkrun which I ran earlier this month.

February Pages

Time for my round-up of this month's pages. I started February with the intention of completing my 2023 annual album, but I had to edit and order another batch of photos first. That lead to me tackling the backlog in my 'Parkrun Continued' album while I waited for the prints to arrive. This album is 8x8 which gave me a quandary for page numbering this year. Should they count as whole pages when they are less work than their 12x12 brethren? I decided to count them as half-pages as their total surface area is 64 square inches while a 12x12 page is 144 square inches; less than half the surface area but they still need all the elements to be a finished page. Six parkrun pages later, and half-way through the month, I picked up the 2023 pages again (but still haven't quite finished the album).

12. Walking with The Snowman
Technically this was from the first weekend of 2024, but it's probably going in the 2023 album as it feels like it belongs with Christmas 2023.
