Pages from Yorkshire

I'm jumping back three years now, to a week we spent in Yorkshire in the Spring of 2022; I'd previously made eight pages (of 12 planned) from this holiday and printed the rest of the photos, but the papers and photos have been languishing in a box ever since. I'm returning to them now as I want to repurpose some of the leftovers to become part of my next cruise album kit.

I knew I had part of two collections in the box - Simple Stories Hello Today and Pebble Seen & Noted - but I also found a treasure trove of other papers, some of which I'd assumed I'd used when I'd been unable to find them and some I had forgotten about entirely. 

(The numbers are my page count for the year.)

85 & 86. On the Cleveland Way

This is the first page chronologically, but the last of this batch that I made as I wasn't happy with my original selection of photos so I printed some new ones and reprinted some old ones in different sizes. They all come from a walk we took along the Cleveland Way between Ravenscar and Robin Hoods Bay.

87. The Long Way Home

This page immediately follows Mallyan Spout, when some of our group opted for a circular walk back to Goathland rather than the direct route that we'd come by.

88. Whitby

A page from Whitby on our final day. I went for a half-and-half background with my three photos in an overlapping stack in one half and everything else in the other half.

89. Whitby Abbey & Caedmon's Cross

A trip to Whitby has to include the abbey and I have two photos of it on this page with a smaller one of a monument known as Caedmon's Cross.

Pages for Annual Albums

I'm changing up my monthly posts to be posts on a theme, and losing the schedule so I'll post whenever I switch from one subject or album to another. Last week I shared ten 8x8 pages for my parkrun continued album, and now I'm turning my attention to the rest of the pages I've made recently, which have all been for my annual albums. I made most of these at the Twilight Weekend Crop mid-month, though few were completely finished then and I brought them home with notes about what else I needed to add or finish off, which has taken me until now.

I let the background paper do most of the work on this page, with a paper stack behind my photo and a scattering of paper circles, enamel dots and mist on the printed stripes.

49. Follow the Otter (2022)

One of four pages from a weekend camping in Devon, for a walk from East Budleigh to Budleigh Salterton beside the River Otter.

Christmas Parkrun

Well, I managed two pages in a row for my cruise album, before diverting again. This diversion is for my latest DT page for Twilight Crafts. Debbie has been busy designing wreath cut-files recently, and I picked her Holly Wreath for a Christmas page.

I have a Silhouette Portrait so can only cut at 8" wide and I wanted a larger wreath so I cut it in two pieces and placed them 'back-to-back' on my page with my photo between the two parts.

I backed the holly berries and leaves in patterned paper, smooshed ink in matching colours onto my background paper to sit behind the cut-file and added dots of Nuvo drops around the wreath. I backed my photo on the same cardstock and papers and popped it up on a square of foam to sit above the cut-file.

Run Killerton

I've been concentrating on holiday photos this year, but a few recent challenges have caught my eye while being designs that don't suit that album. The first is a Scrap Squad scraplift from their cybercrop last weekend, the original page being by Nathalie DeSousa.

We spent a long weekend in Devon last summer and took part in Killerton parkrun on the Saturday. I've scrapped a couple of pages from this trip already, using the Storyteller collection from CVS, with white backgrounds and yellow ink so I pulled out the same supplies. 

I cut a 9" circle in my background cardstock here, smooshed yellow ink around the edge and backed the circle with overlapping strips of patterned paper. I chose just one photo, larger than those on the original page, double matted it and tucked in a row of cameras.  All my parkrun tourism pages have the same format of title, being the word 'Run' followed by the event name, so this is Run Killerton, which I placed on one of the plainer paper strips. I journalled around the edge of the circle and embellished with fussy-cut flowers and puffy hearts.

This page comes from the same long weekend in Devon as the last one, so I used the same paper collection. I made the page a couple of months ago and I'm sure I used a sketch but I can't find it now; if I track it down I'll add it here later. 

On the Sunday we joined some local friends for a walk beside the Grand Western Canal (which used to run from Taunton to Tiverton and the southern end is now a country park).

Weekend Getaway

I've found a couple of pages that I made in November and missed blogging, so here's the first, a late share of my November DT page for Twilight Crafts, one using Storyteller papers from the shop with the Polaroids cut-file.

It's the first of four (I think) from a long weekend camping in Devon last summer. I used a main photo of our new tent with smaller prints from the campsite in the polaroid frames.

My title is a mix of puffy stickers and stamped letters. I bought a set of tile letter stamps from Elle's Studio that remind me very much of the old Mini Market stickers from October Afternoon. I bought loads of those stickers when OA went out of business, and now I can have as many as I need in any ink colour I own. I stamped my word on white cardstock and cut the letters out individually to look like stickers.

Hayburn Wyke

Back in the autumn I made a series of pages from our holiday in Yorkshire last Easter, and there's one more that I made then but didn't share here. This was for a walk to Hayburn Wyke, a cove near our holiday cottage with a small waterfall down onto the beach.

I took the main photo on the page when most of our group were arranged around the waterfall, but I don't think they were aware I was taking it. I originally printed it at 4x6 but the details were lost at that size so I reprinted it at 6x8 and I'm much happier with that. 

I've been using two collections for this holiday - Simple Stories Hello Today and Pebbles Seen & Noted. I'd originally intended to mix the two but it turned out that I prefer the pages when I use one collection at a time, and this page uses the Pebbles papers.

Keeping Watch

I'm still in Yorkshire today, with photos from the WW2 Bent Rigg Radar Station which was sited on the cliff top near Ravenscar.

I picked out two paper collections for this holiday (from Simple Stories and Pebbles) intending to mix and match them but, so far, each page has used predominantly one or the other with more being Simple Stories, so this one needed to use the Pebbles papers. I've also made several pages with horizontal bands of paper and only one with vertical bands, so I went for vertical again here. I had half a sheet of spotty paper left from another page and built up the rest of my background from there.

I matted my photos on different colours of cardstock, and arranged them around my title space. I then decided to mat both the title and my journalling card which gave definition to the edges and provided a buffer between the different shades of white.

I recently shared a double page about The Cinder Track, the old Whitby to Scarborough railway line which is now a walking/cycling path, and concentrated on the path itself. Of course, a disused railway line has old stations too and I picked photos of four of them for this page.

Millennium Mileposts

Following on from my last page, this one relates to the Cinder Track too; the path is part of the National Cycle Network and my page features four of the Millennium Mileposts which dot the network.

There are four designs for these mileposts nationally, but we only saw two different versions. I printed a 4x6 photo of the more detailed milepost, and smaller photos of the other design which we saw three times.

I'm mainly using two paper collections for my pages from Yorkshire, but I pulled in the spotty paper as an extra one here. The scalloped border is a repeat from another page and the yellow tile letters have appeared before too.

On the Cinder Track

Our cottage in Yorkshire backed onto The Cinder Track, a footpath which follows the line of the old Whitby to Scarborough Railway. We walked several sections of it on different days, but I've pulled all the photos of the track onto one double page.

I'm using two complementary paper collections for the pages from this holiday, but only one of them here. There's a bit of cutting and stretching going on as I only had one sheet of the spotty paper, but didn't need any behind the full-height stack of three 4x6 photos.

I have umpteen albums on the go at present, but one that I have badly neglected is my 2022 annual album. For the past few years I mostly kept the annual albums up to date as we went along, but this year that's been a failure. We're in October now and I have made precisely five pages. I'm starting to rectify that with our Easter holiday in Yorkshire for which I've made two pages previously.

I try to use a kit of papers for holidays so that they make a distinct sub-section in my annual albums and for this one I have a mix of papers from Simple Stories and Bo Bunny which share a similar colour palette though the Bo Bunny collection is cleaner and brighter than the Simple Stories papers.

I'm jumping off with a page for Mallyan Spout, a waterfall on the edge of the village of Goathland on the North Yorkshire Moors. I printed two 4x6 photos and based my page on the September sketch from For the Love of Pretty Paper. I see the sketch as being a band of patterned paper on a plain background, but I switched it to add pattern to the top and bottom of my page, with a plainer middle section. I had to play with the proportions as my photos are bigger, and I switched the positions of title and journalling, running the title vertically in the reduced space.

Well, it's taken me all summer but I have finally reached the end of Scrap Squad's 12 Days of Summer Scraplifts. The last lift is of a page by Melissa Vining, pinned from scrapbook.com.

I took inspiration from the three columns of paper and photos on Melissa's page, but extended mine to cover the whole layout. I used a 6x6 pad from P13's Sugar and Spice collection to make my grid and arranged the boxes with larger pieces in the middle to hold a 4x6 photo that is not part of the original page in any way.

If the minutiae of Thurrock mapping in the last couple of posts bored you to tears, you'll be glad to see me back to scrapbooking today. The 12 Days of Summer Scraplifts challenges from Scrap Squad ended ages ago, but I am still working my way through them and made this page for Day 8, based on an almost-rainbow of stripes from Laura Rumble who blogs at Beads, Buttons and Birds.

I knew this scraplift was coming up when I placed my last order, and I deliberately added a stripy paper from Pinkfresh Studio just to use for this page. 

The paper had printed stitch lines which I hand-stitched over in matching colours of embroidery thread. I was going to add an assortment of colour-matched embellishments as per Laura's page but I struggled to find pieces that looked good together and I felt that they detracted from my stitching so I kept it plain in the end. I also departed from Laura's original design by using two photos (of my husband's cousin's new arrival) and layering them on a couple of patterned papers.

Welcome to Yorkshire

I'm taking on the second Summer Scraplift from Scrap Squad today, but not going so random with the photos as I did on the first. I looked at the page design, a lift from Hip Kit Club, and decided to make the first page (chronologically) for our Easter holiday in Yorkshire this year.

I've already pulled together a kit of papers based around Simple Stories Hello Today and Pebbles Seen & Noted, so that choice was made for me in advance. I made my triangles shallower than those in the original page and moved elements around to suit my single 4x6 photo.

Today I'm sharing my latest DT page for Twilight Crafts and Jenny Wren Cut-Files. A few months ago I asked Debbie if she could make a compass, and she came up trumps with this design.

I'd imagined using it in a cruise album, but its first outing was something a bit different from that. We had a holiday in Yorkshire at Easter and did the parkrun at North Yorkshire Water Park on the Saturday. This formed part of the 'Compass Challenge' of completing four events with north, south, east and west in their names, so my compass was the perfect embellishment piece.

I split my page in two, using photos from before and during the run in the two halves, and repeating the large paper layers from one half as smaller pieces in the other. I cut my compass from black cardstock at about 4" across, backed just the centre sections with green, and nestled it against the top photo. All my 12x12 parkrun tourism pages have the title Run [Event Name] so I followed that with RUN on a ticket and the name on washi tape across the middle of the page.

Spread the Parkrun Love

Well, I applied for the new DT at Let's Get Sketchy but I wasn't successful. However the sketch to use for DT submissions was also the first sketch of the new era, so I had a page ready and waiting for that when it was published at the start of the month.

We are in March now but we haven't done much yet this year and that makes keeping on top of the 2022 album quite straightforward. I have a single photo of a friend and me at parkrun taken by the photographer volunteer last month which I thought would suit the sketch well.

I picked Simple Stories Safe Travels papers from the colours in the photo and layered them in a similar way to the sketch. That big flower became my tree and I inked an old piece of filmstrip chipboard to run behind the photo (which I popped up on a piece of foam to give enough depth for the chipboard piece to sit neatly).

There's no place marked for journalling on the sketch so I popped mine on a card below the photo and moved the title across. I included the word 'love' for a challenge from Hey Little Magpie, but I would probably have used this wording anyway. My friend is a relative newcomer to parkrun and now loves it almost as much as we do.
