This page has been a long time in the making, I've been working on it for days in a few minutes here and a few minutes there, but it's finally finished. It has its roots even further back as I am using the June Simple Recipes prompt from UKScrappers. The recipe colours last month were ice blue, turquoise hue and green gold and I knew that I had a swirly floral paper with just those colours, but I couldn't find it! After deciding that I must have already used the other side, I gave up looking, and found it! It's from Fancy Pants' Winterland collection and also has little snowflakes in the pattern so I looked back to photos from last winter and picked one of my daughter and her team-mates at the beginning of a scout hike in the snow.
There is an optional sketch in the Simple Recipe, but it didn't suit my needs. A single photo and a paper that I wanted to show took me to Shimelle's blog to use Sketch 7 from her Sketch to Scrapbook Page video series instead.
Further optional ingredients from the recipe were washi tape, patterned letter stickers and new stash. I did use the washi tape, which is itself new stash, but not the patterned letters.

Challenge 117 at Scrap Whispers a couple of weeks ago was a technique challenge - to use punches in a project. I use them quite often, so I suppose I could have entered any of my recent pages, but I wanted to make something where the punches were central to the design. I decided to make a card using three of the colours from this month's Simple Recipes strand at UK Scrappers, orange, turquoise and pink. It's not a combination that I would normally use on a layout, but it works well for a card.
I used some old patterned papers and a 1" punch to create a patchwork of squares as a base and layered punched butterflies and flowers on some of the squares. I also punched one of each shape right though the card and wrapped ribbon around the card. I will add a peel-off sentiment to the ribbon when I decide who to give it to.

Another monthly class running on UKScrappers is 'Simple Recipes' which gives you a 'recipe' for putting together a page kit from your own supplies. This consists of a colour combination, some embellishment ideas and a sketch, but you can use any or all of these ideas.
The colour combination for January was Hot Pink, Stormy Grey and Chocolate Brown; the embellishments suggestion was to use items with texture such as fabric, lace and netting.
The colour combination led me to a photo of my friend's daughter investigating the chickens at our local farm park. I love the fact that her face is hidden by her sunhat - it reminds me of Faye Whittaker's 'All Our Yesterdays' paintings.
I toned down the intensity of the colours to suit my photo and used the sketch, but not the ideas for texture:
I used an assortment of old and new paper in pinks and browns on a grey background, plus some ribbon and some very old letters. Somehow I managed to use 'stuff' from four different Crate Paper collections.
