Seven Sisters

'Seven Sisters' is a name given to various places around the world, but these sisters are in Norway and I'm referring to a set of waterfalls in Geirangerfjord which we cruised past one evening.

I thought I'd printed one landscape and one portrait photo of the falls and I earmarked this sketch from Sketch-n-Scrap's Facebook Challenge group, but when I came to make the page I found that both photos were actually landscape. I had a look around for an alternative sketch but in the end I decided to use this one anyway.

I had to move the title across, but my paper layers pretty much match the sketch. My embellishment moved too, with a cluster of circles around the title that echo the circles pattern of the paper on the left of the page.

Breiavatnet

My last page was for Hellesylt in Norway, but those are the only photos that I have printed from that port so far, so now I'm going back to Stavanger to fill in a gap from that city.

Breivatnet is an ornamental lake near the cathedral and the city centre. I was in two minds as to whether to include it in the album or not as it makes my pages uneven, but it's rather pretty and one of the things that I had remembered best from the first time we visited, back in 2009.

I went with a fairly simple page design with my two photos (lake and cathedral) on a 'shelf' which spans the width of the page. Apart from the background, all of my papers were scraps leftover from other pages so I know that all these papers repeat within the album. The background is a new paper but the cross pattern does appear on other papers elsewhere

Hellesylt

I've previously made 'sub-title' pages for five of the ports of call on our Norwegian cruise, and now it's the turn of Hellesylt. This was our second stop and the only port that was new to us on this trip.

I've followed the same page design each time using different papers and ephemera but all based on the colour scheme of Pinkfresh Studio's Out and About collection. The photos on each page are always a 6x8 view of the port (generally as we arrived) and a 3x4 of the ship.

Home Again

I'm jumping right to the end of our cruise now, with a page for our return to Dover. I don't always make a page for the home port, but in this album I have a double page for our last port of call (Rain Stops Play) and no photos from our day at sea so I need another page to fill in the back of that double. Luckily the sun was shining and Dover is more photogenic than some ports we've sailed from. 

Nanat's Page

My page is a scraplift of one by a French lady called Nanat, which was Scraplift Challenge #23 in the Scrap Squad group on Facebook. 

I flipped the page horizontally so that I could use a paper with lots of travel icons on the right hand side. This paper is one of my favourites from the Out and About collection by Pinkfresh Studio, but I've actually found it quite difficult to use. 

I made the diagonal panel on the left larger so that I could turn it into a pocket to hold our Cruise Log, hidden behind the photo and paper layers, but mentioned in the journalling so that people will know it's there.

Cinematastic

I have more pages to make from our day in Flåm, but I need to print the photos first so I'm changing tack for the next few posts.

There's a show on board every evening, and I took this photo of the singers during 'Cinematastic' which featured songs and dances from the movies. 

I used this month's JumpStart sketch from The ScrapRoom but layered the papers more tightly with a portrait photo rather than landscape. I'm so pleased to have included that chipboard filmstrip; it's about five years old now and has been sitting among a pile of pieces that I want to use up.

Rjoandefossen

Another page from Norway, in particular it's from our walk down the Flåm Valley. We saw lots of waterfalls that day; they are so common that many don't even have names, but this one was something special.

Rjoandefossen is more than 300m high and we took dozens of photos as we passed it. I picked two from different angles, one portrait and one landscape, and scrapped them with the aid of this month's sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.

I swapped the two photos over compared to the sketch as that was the order in which I took them, and added more paper layers behind them as I'm not using any mixed media in this album.

Flåmsbana

One of Norway's biggest tourist attractions is the railway that runs from Flåm to Myrdal. It's just 20km long and climbs 866m on its journey, making it the steepest conventional railway in the world. We've been on it before (back in 2008) as part of an organised tour, but this time we decided to ride just over half-way up and then walk back down.

Scrapdolly's Page

This page is about the railway rather than the walk though, and is a scraplift of one from Scrapdolly at UKScrappers which I took on as part of a chain-scraplifting challenge (where we are lifting one another in turn to make a chain of related pages).

The trains themselves aren't particularly pretty so I picked two photos which show plenty of the scenery too. I kept many elements of Scrapdolly's page such as her light background, stripy paper layer, punched edges and journalling placement, but I moved my title and my embellishments have more geometric shapes than her free-flowing floral pieces.

My title "Flåmsbana" is the Norwegian for Flåm Railway, and I copied the font/logo from their website to cut it on my Silhouette.

Flåm

I'm moving on now to our day in and around Flåm, and starting off with my 'sub-title' page for the port, with photos of the village as we arrived and the ship once we'd docked. I'm making one of these for each place we visited in order to split the album into 'chapters', and each one follows the same design with different papers.

Around Floen

Floen is a lake in the Olden Valley, a bit further along than the waterfall on my last page, and we walked round it on our day there. I've picked three photos of the lake, one taken at each end and one across the lake to some of the neighbouring mountains. 

Three landscape photos meant that I recycled a favourite page design, stacking them up in a column against a few strips of patterned paper and washi tape.

Look Both Ways

I have another page from our day in Olden here, where I am looking both ways at a waterfall, with photos taken from viewpoints above and below it.

I've scraplifted another of Shimelle's pages; this time it comes from her Design Decisions class, using a prompt that I've followed before for our holiday in Austria three years ago (Wolfgangsee Schifffahrt).

Most of my embellishment is in that block of punched squares of different papers, and those squares repeat from other pages in this album too.

Looking at the page now on my screen, I think it may need a strip of red above the teal paper, so I'll think about that and may add one before I finish the album.

A Tale of Two Churches

The village of Olden in Norway is quite small, and the scenery is more interesting than the buildings, but it does have two churches. This was our fourth visit to Olden so I've scrapped photos of them before, but somehow this holiday album would feel incomplete if I didn't scrap them again.

I didn't want to scrap my two photos in a block so dug through some old classes for a scraplift, hitting on a page from Shimelle Laine's The 20 Project which had the photos offset slightly.
