On Muncaster Fell

I've gone back to our Easter 2018 holiday in Cumbria now, and a walk over Muncaster Fell one afternoon. My colour scheme for this holiday is red, yellow, green, blue, brown and orange, in dull earthy shades rather than brights so I picked some green dotted Swiss cardstock which pulled that colour from the photos for my background and then went through my scraps box for pieces to use.

I had eight photos which I arranged in chronological order and matted the middle five on darker green cardstock. This meant that the middle of the page was fully covered and I could just tuck my scraps in around the green box. Most of these pieces are much smaller than they might appear and I've cut them into two or sometimes three pieces with the gaps covered by other layers.

P.S. You might have noticed that my posts have slowed down in recent weeks, and that's because I've been trying to tame our wilderness of a garden now that Spring has arrived and that is eating into my scrapping time. I might create and post something in the next week, but I might not. However next weekend is National Scrapbooking Day and I certainly intend to join in with that.

Windermere Sunset

Dotty About Flair held a cybercrop over the Easter weekend, and the last challenge was to be inspired by the cybercrop itself, and scraplift a page already entered for one of the other challenges. I picked 'Shine' by Kathryn which she made for a mixed media and stamping challenge.

I rotated her page for a landscape photo the sun setting over Windermere in the Lake District over a background that I inked in orange, purple and blue/grey. I used grey for my stamping as being softer than black, cut the word 'Sunset' on my Silhouette and added 'Windermere' in tile stickers in the space between the word and the photo.

P.S. We went to Cumbria twice in 2018, in April and December. This photo was from the second visit and will be completely separate from my recent (April) holiday pages so doesn't need to have the same colour scheme or techniques.

P.P.S. I've doodled a black frame around the page now, but not taken a new photo.

Look Up to the Skies

Shimelle's Page
2018 again, but I've jumped to later in the year and a page for the light installation in Carnaby Street that coincided with the release of the film Bohemian Rhapsody.

I've scraplifted a page from Shimelle from one of her Facebook lives for my page. All those strips of word paper on her page were perfect to copy for my photos of the different lyrics, and one main photo instead of four was an easy swap.

I've used Shimelle paper, washi and letter stickers too, all from Sparkle City which had the purple I needed.

Milefortlet 21

This page follows on directly from the previous one, coming from the same coastal walk. My photos are of a milefortlet, part of the Roman defences that followed the coast south from Hadrian's Wall.

I've been trying to use my scraps in preference to new sheets, and I spotted three different patterns in the same shade of yellow lurking among them. I pulled in the plaid paper as having the same yellow and then picked the red and navy to match with it.

I used the back of the spotty paper to make a tag for my title and journalled in the opposite corner.

Coastal Walk

I'm still in Cumbria for this page, when we walked along the coast from the village of Allonby where we were staying; we were heading for the remains of a Roman fort, but this page comes first. It has two photos, one looking back to Allonby and one of the old salt pans on the coast viewed from above.

I scraplifted myself for this page, adapting my Return to Dartmoor page from three smaller to two larger photos.

I layered up two sets of paper strips, added my photos in opposite corners, and placed my title and journalling in between them this time.

Run Workington

I'm tackling the missing pages for my 2018 album in random order, taking inspiration as it comes. This page is from April when a friend and I ran Workington parkrun* while on holiday in Cumbria.

I followed a sketch from Lisa Sikorski which she published recently on Instagram; I flipped it over and added a second photo.

All my pages for parkruns other than my home event have the title Run XXX; for this page I cut the RUN three times on my Silhouette and glued them together for thicker letters, and added Workington in smaller letters to the frame below.

* Parkruns are free events run by volunteers in parks across the country every week (though currently suspended for obvious reasons). I started parkrunning in 2018 and kept an 8x8 scrapbook/journal for the first year; hit the 'parkrun 2018' or 'parkrun continued' label if you'd like to know more.

Cultural Cities Cruise

I'm heading back into my 2018 photos now with this page, the last one for my term on the Design Team at The Mad Scrapper. I've picked my favourite collection from the last six months, Vicki Boutin's Storyteller, for a double page summary of that year's cruise.

I used a globe cutfile from Paige Evans, and a page design from Shimelle Laine, with eight 3x4 photos. Please pop over to The Mad Scrapper Blog for more information and close-up photos.

Falmer Bar

I have another page for my daughter's university album today. The photo was taken on the diagonal and I've had a layout in mind since I saw this page from Orange Gearle at Paper Issues last autumn but it's taken me a long while to get it down on paper.

I chose a set of papers that had the same few colours in lots of different patterns and cut four 3" squares and four 1.5" squares from eight of them which I used with four 2" insta-cards. The cards already had rounded corners so I rounded all my paper squares and the photograph too.

I arranged them all on the page in a more regular pattern than the original and added extras to most of the squares - cork arrows on the arrows paper, enamel shapes on the triangles paper, enamel dots in the middle of the doily prints, etc. My title went on the plainest large square and I added clusters with arrows and enamel dots to each side, outside the squares, to soften all the regular lines.

The 'Date' square is blank for now; my daughter can journal there next time she's home.

Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt - The Finale

The Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt organised by Eileen at A Bracelet of Days ended yesterday. It ran for four months but I started slowly then hibernated for a bit and I've found most of these during March.

Eileen gave us a list of twenty items to find and photograph plus three alternatives in case any proved to be impossible. As always, they are a mixture of difficulties, but this year she also bore in mind that many of us might be living under Covid restrictions, and that has certainly been the case here in the UK.

I decided to take as many of my photos as possible outside, and here they are:

1. A Set of Three
Three greylag geese

2. Round and Round
Ivy wending its way round and round a tree trunk.

3. Peek Inside
A peek inside my garden shed. The door doesn't shut properly and I had birds nesting there last year. I wonder if they will be back?

4. Glass
A miscellany of drinking vessels.

6. Horizontal
The treads on these steps.

7. An Opening
Leading onto a footpath

8. A Sign of the Times
The obvious

9. Weather Conditions
Snow in February

10. Work in Progress
Mini-book making. Come back soon to see the finished project.

11. Measures
I've taken 'measures' to make my T-square easier to spot on my desk. I used to lose it all the time because it's clear, but the strips of washi I added make it easier to see.

12. In the Distance
The towers of Canary Wharf, about 13 miles away.

13. Something Beginning with C
Chinodoxa (Glory of the Snow)

14. One of Many
Blackthorn blossom

15. Something with Legs
A cockerel weathervane

16. A Face
Barney the Bear

18. Something You Do Every Day
Eating an apple

19. Something Yellow
Daffodils

20. Marking Time
One of these marks time better than the other.

Alt A. In Pieces
My Christmas jigsaw

Alt C. Black and white
A zebra crossing

I completely forgot to photograph any comfort food (my chocolate mug cake would have been good) and dithered about a treasured item for a long time without deciding what to pick, so in the end I used two of the alternatives for those.

Eileen is hosting a final link-up this week, so please do hop over there and see what everyone else has found.
